The Navami that comes in the bright half of Kartik month is called Akshaya Navami. On that day, offer rituals to the gods, sages and ancestors near the root of the Peepal tree and offer Arghya to the Sun God. Thereafter, after offering sweet food to the brahmins, give them dakshina and eat the food himself. In this way, one who devoutly chants, donates, performs Brahmin worship and homa on Akshaya Navami, his everything becomes renewable, such is the statement of Lord Brahma.
The donation given on Kartik Shukla Navami is renewable, hence it is called Akshay Navami.
According to all the Puranas like Skanda Puran, Narad Puran etc. Kartik Shukla Paksha is Navami Yugadi date. The donation made in this and the home renewable should be known. The fruit which is obtained by donating for a hundred years in each era, is obtained by donating one day in the Yugadi period “Etschatastrastithyo Yugadya Dattam Hutam Chaksayamasu Vidyat. Yuge Yuge Varshaten Danam Yugadikale Divain Tatfalam” According to Devi Puran, fasting, worship, tarpan and Annadika donation on Kartik Shukla Navmika gives eternal fruit.
Kartik Shukla Navami is also called ‘Dhatri Navami’ (Aonla Navami) and ‘Kushmanda Navami’ (Petha Navami or Sitaphal Navami). According to Skanda Purana, Amla worship on Akshaya Navami brings good luck to women and Petha worship brings peace, life and children in the house.
All the gods reside in the Amla tree and this fruit is also very dear to Lord Vishnu. On the day of Akshaya Navami, if it is not possible to worship the gooseberry and sit under the gooseberry tree to prepare and eat food, then on this day, gooseberry must be eaten. It is believed that on the day of Kartik Shukla Navami, drops of nectar fall from the gooseberry tree and if a person eats under this tree, then the portion of nectar comes in the food. Due to which man becomes disease free and becomes long. According to Charak Samhita, Maharishi Chyawan again attained youth by eating Amla on Akshaya Navami.
