Magha-Mauni Amavasya
Mauni Amavasya is on 01 February 2022.
Amavasya of Magha month is called Mauni Amavasya. There are two assumptions for this nomenclature.
There should be silence on this day. Mouni is derived from the word Muni. Therefore, the one who ends this fast by observing silence, attains the position of Muni. On this day one should remain silent and take bath in Prayag Sangam or holy river.
It is believed that on this day Brahma ji had started the creation of the universe by creating the self-styled godman, hence this Amavasya is also called Mauni Amavasya.
According to ‘Padma Purana’, one who performs tarpan to ancestors with sesame seeds and water before sunrise on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Magha month, enjoys inexhaustible happiness in heaven. One who makes a cow of sesame on the said date and donates it along with all the materials, he is free from the sins of seven births, he becomes the partaker of inexhaustible happiness in heaven. Even by giving food worthy of food to a Brahmin, one attains Akshaya heaven. One who donates food grains, clothes, house etc. to the best Brahmin, Lakshmi never leaves him.
On this day, Pitru Puja, Shradh, Tarpan, Pind Daan, Narayani etc. can be done. Although each Amavasya is special for Pitru Karma, but due to being Yugadi Tithi and Makarastha Sun, the importance of Mauni Amavasya is much more. If you are suffering from Pitra Dosh or you feel that no one has attained good speed in the family of your father, mother or guru, then do Tarpan (especially on the banks of the Ganges) today.
🙏🏻 If you are lucky and are going to bathe in the Ganges on this day, then there are many other acts besides tarpan. There is a statement of Lord Shiva in Skanda Purana.
For the purpose of the ancestors, one who devoutly pours honeyed kheer with jaggery, ghee and sesame in the Ganges, his ancestors remain satisfied for a hundred years and they, being satisfied, provide various kinds of desired things to their children.

Those who bathe the Shivling with the Ganges water for the purpose of ancestors, their ancestors are satisfied even if they are lying in a heavy hell.
🙏🏻 Those who offer Arghya to Lord Surya with Ganges water (water, milk, head of kush, ghee, honey, cow’s curd, red kaner and red sandalwood) kept in a copper vessel even once, they along with their ancestors They go to the sun and are honored.
One who donates Pind Daan even once on the banks of the Ganges, by means of water mixed with water, saves his ancestors from the ocean of the universe.
🙏🏻 Father/mother/guru/brother/friend/relative, in any family, in any way, in any condition (whether by fire or by poison or by self-immolation or by other means) the salvation of all ancestors is possible today.

Amavasya is Yugadi Tithi of Magha Krishna Paksha. That is, on this date one of the four Yugas began. According to Skanda Purana, “Maghe Panchadashi Krishna Dwaparadih Smrita Budhaih” is the beginning date of Dwapar, while some scholars consider it to be the beginning date of Kali Yuga. Yugadi dates are very auspicious, chanting, austerity, meditation, bathing, charity, sacrifice, havan, performed on this day gives manifold results. Received by one day’s donation.
On this day a fire should be lit for the consumption of sadhus, mahatmas and brahmins and they should be given winter clothes like quilts, blankets etc. On this day, mix black sesame seeds in jaggery and make modaks and tie them in red clothes and give them to the brahmins. On this pious festival, after feeding Brahmins with different types of naivedya sweets, Shatras delicacies, after satisfying them with dakshina etc.

In the cowshed, green fodder, cake, bran, husk, jaggery etc. should be donated for the sake of the cows, and holding the cow’s feet on the head, it should be prostrate.
Worship Brahmadev and Gayatri on Maghi Amavasya in the morning after bath. Donate cow, gold, umbrella, clothes, bed, mirror etc. to Brahmins along with mantras. Have food with Brahmins and family members with a holy spirit. On this day, circumambulate Peepal by offering prayers and donate lamps. Those for whom fasting is not possible on this day should eat sweet food.

On the day of Mauni Amavasya, there is also a special significance of feeding hungry creatures. On this day, after taking bath in the morning, make balls of flour. Keep chanting the name of God while making pills. After this, go to a nearby pond or river and feed these flour balls to the fish. This remedy can end many problems in your life. Feed flour mixed with sugar to the ants on the new moon day. By doing this your sinful deeds will be destroyed and virtuous deeds will arise. These virtuous deeds will be helpful in fulfilling your wishes.

Dashtirtha Sahasrani Tisraha Kotyastha Parah Samagachhanti Madhyam Tu Prayage Bharatarshabha. Maghamasam Prayage Tu Niyah Sanshitvratah. Snatva tu Bharatshreshtha Nirmalah Swargmapnuyat. (Mahabharata, Discipline Parv 25. 36 -38)

That is, on the new moon of Magh month, there is a meeting of three crore ten thousand other pilgrimages in Prayag Raj. One who takes a bath in Prayag in the month of Magha, following the strict fasting, becomes free from all sins and goes to heaven.
