Bhishma Panchak Vrat
Bhishma Panchak fast is from 04 November 2022 Friday to 08 November 2022 Tuesday.
The fast from Kartik Shukla Ekadashi to Poonam is called ‘Bhishma-Panchak Vrat’. All kinds of auspicious deeds are performed by one who observes this fast. This great virtuous fast is going to destroy the great people.

On the day of Kartik Ekadashi, Bhishma, lying on the bed of arrows, prayed for water. When Arjuna resolved and shot an arrow on the ground, the edge of Gangaji came out and came in the mouth of Bhishma. His thirst quenched and body, mind and life were satisfied. Therefore, declaring this day as a festival, Lord Shri Krishna said that ‘Whoever will satisfy Bhishma with Arghya donation and observe this Bhishmapanchak fast, from today till the full moon, I will be naturally happy.’

Who should observe this fast?
If a childless person observes such a fast along with his wife, then he gets the child.
Those who want to increase their influence, want Vaikuntha or want happiness in this world, they have been advised to observe this fast.
Whoever offers Arghya to Bhishma with the following mantra, he is bound to get salvation.

I give this water to the sonless Bhishmavarma who has Vyaghrapad Gotra and Sankrit Pravara. I offer Arghya to the incarnation of the Vasus, the son of Shantanu, a born brahmachari Bhishma. (Skanda Purana, Vaishnava Khand, Kartik Mahatmaya)

Method of Fasting
The first day of this fast is Devuthi Ekadashi. Lord Narayana wakes up on this day. Therefore, on this day the Lord should be awakened by chanting the following mantra:

उत्तिष्ठोत्तिष्ठ गोविन्द उत्तिष्ठ गरुडध्वज l
उत्तिष्ठ कमलाकान्त त्रैलोक्यमन्गलं कुरु ll

‘O Govinda! Arise, arise, O Garudadhwaj! Arise, O Kamalakanta! Give up sleep and do good for the three worlds.

Give up food during these five days. Take tuber root, fruits, milk or havishya (prescribed sattvik food which is done on the days of Yagya).

In these days, the consumption of Panchagavya (a mixture of cow’s milk, curd, ghee, cow dung and dung juice) is beneficial. If you take a bath by adding a little cow dung in water, then it is considered to be disease-defective and sin-destroyer.

Brahmacharya should be followed in these days.
Arghya-tarpan to Bhishma –
On these five days, the following mantra should be offered to Bhishma ji:

सत्यव्रताय शुचये गांगेयाय महात्मने l
भीष्मायैतद ददाम्यर्घ्यमाजन्मब्रह्मचारिणे ll

🙏🏻 ‘I offer this arghya to the most pious, truth-loving Ganganandan Mahatma Bhishma, who is a follower of celibacy.
