Rules to be Followed in Shradh
Mahalaya Shradh starts from Saturday 10th September 2022.
The method which is done for the fulfillment of ancestors by the combination of reverence and mantra is called ‘Shraadh’.
Pind Daan is done for our relatives who have passed away, those who have not found another body, they wander in or here and there in Pitruloka.
Pind Daan is not done for children and sannyasins.
A considerate person should invite a self-restrained, elevated Brahmin a day before the day when Shradh is to be performed. But if any uninvited ascetic Brahmins come to the house on the day of Shradh, then they should also be fed food.
The food present for the meal should be very sweet, according to the desire of the eater and well-perfected. Keeping food in the vessels, the performer should say with a very beautiful and sweet voice that ‘O great people! Now you guys eat according to your wish.’
The food given by revered persons by uttering the name and gotra, the ancestors get the food they are worthy of. (Vishnu Purana: 3.16,16)
The body, matter, woman, land, mind, mantra and brahmin – these seven things should be specially purified during Shradh period.
Three things should be kept in mind during Shradh: Shuddhi, Akrodha and Atvara (do not be hasty).
Mantra has great importance in Shradh. No matter how valuable the item given by you in Shradh, but if you do not pronounce the mantra properly, then the work gets disturbed. Chanting of the mantra should be pure and the name of the person for whose purpose they perform Shradh should also be uttered.
Those whose date of death is not known, their Shradh should be performed on the new moon day.
In Hindus, when the wife leaves the world, she says to her husband with folded hands: ‘If I have committed some crime, then forgive me and you pray for my well being.’ If the husband goes, he says to the wife, with folded hands: ‘If I have treated you unknowingly or unknowingly, then forgive me and pray for my well being.’
We think for each other’s welfare even while we live, we think even when we die and we think even after we die.
