🔥 Yamdeepdaan Ritual for Dhanteras – 18 October 2025 🔥
Purpose: Offering a lamp to Yamaraj (god of death) to ward off untimely death.
Scriptural Basis: Mentioned in Skanda Purana and Padma Purana.
Method:
Use a large lamp made of wheat flour.
Place four wicks in a cross pattern.
Fill with sesame oil and add black sesame seeds.
Light the lamp during the evening (Pradosh Kaal).
Place it outside the main door on a small mound of puffed rice or wheat.
Face south and chant “ॐ यमदेवाय नमः” while offering the lamp.
Mantra:
मृत्युना पाशदण्डाभ्यां कालेन श्यामया सह |
त्रयोदश्यां दीपदानात् सूर्यजः प्रीयतां मम ||
Translation: “On Dhantrayodashi, I offer this lamp to Yamaraj, son of the Sun. May he free me from the bonds of death and bless me.”
