Surya Shashthi
Morai Chhath fast is kept on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. It is also called Peacock Chhath or Surya Shashthi Vrat in some places. This time this fast is on 02 September, Friday. According to the Bhavishyottara Purana, one should observe a fast on the Shashti Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of every month in the name of Lord Surya. Among them, Shashti of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month has special significance. On this day Ganga bath, sun worship, chanting and fasting are done. On this day, worshiping the sun, bathing in the Ganges and darshan and consuming Panchagavya gives results similar to that of Ashwamedha Yagya. Alona (salt-free) food should be taken only once a day on this day. Red flowers, gulal, red cloth, red colored sweets etc. have special significance in Sun worship.
