In the same way, by taking Varaha avatar, he killed the great fearsome Hiranyaksha and freed the gods, humans and all others from fear. He had protected the gods from Mahabali and the elusive king Bali.
Similarly, Shrihari Vishnu had done some such works which were called deceit done for the welfare of the people. If they did not do this, the lives of many gods and goddesses would have been in danger.
5 deceits committed by Shri Hari Vishnu in public interest
Cheating with Bhasmasura Everyone must have remembered his story after hearing the name of Bhasmasura. Lord Shankar’s life was in danger because of Bhasmasura. Although Bhasmasura had a different name, but due to the boon of consuming ashes, he got the name Bhasmasura.
Bhasmasura was a great sinner. To increase his power, he did severe penance for Lord Shankar and asked him for a boon to be immortal, but Lord Shankar said that you ask for something else, then Bhasmasura asked for a boon that whatever head I lay my hand on, it should be consumed. Lord Shankar said- Amen.
Bhasmasura said as soon as he got this boon, Lord, why not test the power of this boon. Then he himself ran to place his hand on Shiva’s head. Shiva also fled from there and hid in the shelter of Vishnu. Then Vishnu took the form of a beautiful woman and attracted Bhasmasura. Forgetting Shiva, Bhasmasura fell in love with that beautiful woman. Vishnu, the female form of Mohini, inspired Bhasmasura to dance with himself. Bhasmasura immediately agreed.
While dancing, Bhasmasura started dancing like Mohini and seeing the right opportunity, Vishnu placed his hand on his head. Intoxicated by power and lust, Bhasmasura imitated whom and Bhasmasura was consumed by his own boon.
Shiva was hiding here: Lord Shankar fled from there to escape from Bhasmasura. Bhasmasura also started running after him. While running, Shiva stopped near a hill and then he made a cave in this hill with his trident and he again hid in the same cave. Later Vishnuji came and saved his life. The cave is believed to be located on the Trikuta hills, 150 km from Jammu. The mind becomes calm just by looking at these beautiful hills. Every day hundreds of Shiva devotees worship Shiva in this cave.
Deception with Vrinda According to Srimadmadevi Bhagavata Purana, Jalandhar was a part of Asura Shiva, but he did not know about it. Jalandhar was a very powerful Asura. After defeating Indra, Jalandhar became the lord of the three worlds. Yamraj was also afraid of him.
According to Shrimadmadevi Bhagwat Purana, once Lord Shiva threw his glory into the ocean and from this Jalandhar was born. It is believed that Jalandhar had immense power and the reason for his power was his wife Vrinda. Due to Vrinda’s virtuous religion, all the gods and goddesses together were not able to defeat Jalandhar. Jalandhar became proud of his power and disobeying Vrinda’s virtuous dharma, working against the gods, started harassing their women.
Jalandhar knew that if there is someone most powerful in the universe, then he is the God of gods, Mahadev. In order to establish himself as almighty, Jalandhara first defeated Indra and became Trilokadhipati respectively. After this he attacked Vishnu Lok.
Jalandhar plans to defeat Vishnu and snatch Goddess Lakshmi from Vishnu. Due to this he attacked Baikuntha, but Goddess Lakshmi told Jalandhar that we are both born from water, so we are brothers and sisters. Jalandhar was impressed by the words of Goddess Lakshmi and left from Baikunth, considering Lakshmi as her sister.
After this he planned to attack Kailash and gathered all his asuras and went to Kailash and tried to make Goddess Parvati his wife. Due to this Goddess Parvati became angry and then Mahadev had to fight with Jalandhar, but due to Vrinda’s chastity, every attack of Lord Shiva made Jalandhar fruitless.
In the end the gods made a plan together and Lord Vishnu disguised as Jalandhar reached Vrinda. Considering Lord Vishnu as her husband Jalandhar, Vrinda started treating him like a wife. This broke Vrinda’s virtuous religion and Shiva killed Jalandhar.
Vrinda committed self-immolation when Vishnu violated her chastity, then a Tulsi plant was born on top of her ashes. Tulsi is the form of Goddess Vrinda, whom Lord Vishnu considers more dear than Lakshmi.
The present Jalandhar city in the Punjab province of India is named after Jalandhar. Even today in Jalandhar, the temple of Goddess Vrinda, wife of Asuraraj Jalandhar, is located in Mohalla Kot Kishanchand. It is believed that there was an ancient cave here, which went straight to Haridwar. It is believed that in ancient times there used to be 12 ponds around this city. Had to take the help of boat to get to the city
Tricked the Asuras by becoming a Mohini: When Indra was defeated in the battle by Bali, the king of the demons, then the frustrated and disheartened deity took Brahmaji with him and went to the shelter of Shri Hari Vishnu and started praying to him to get his heaven back.
Shri Hari said that all of you gods should make peace with the demons and after getting their cooperation, churn Madaranchal by making a rope and Vasuki Nag to churn Kshirsagar. By drinking the nectar that will be obtained from the churning of the ocean, I will make all the gods immortal and immortal, only then the gods will be able to annihilate the demons and regain the supremacy of heaven.
Indra, the king of the gods, went to Bali, the king of the demons, and proposed to him to churn the ocean and told about the nectar. In the greed of nectar, the demon promised to support the gods. The gods and demons tried with all their might to lift the Madaranchal mountain and take it to the beach, but could not lift it, then Shri Hari picked it up and placed it in the sea.
The auspicious work of churning the ocean started by making Madranchal a rope of Mathani and Vasuki Nag. Shri Vishnu’s eyes fell on Mathani, which was going on sinking inwards. Seeing this, he himself made a Kachhap and placed the Madaranchal mountain on his back.
Thereafter, Lakshmi, Kaustubh, Parijata, Sura, Dhanvantari, Moon, Pushpak, Airavat, Panchajanya, Shankh, Rambha, Kamadhenu, Uchchaishrava and finally Amrit Kumbh emerged from the churning of the ocean, which was brought by Dhanvantariji. The demons started running after snatching the nectar from their hands so that they would become immortal by drinking nectar before the gods. A fight broke out between the demons for the Kalash and the deities stood in despair.
Shri Vishnu assumed the form of a very beautiful woman and reached between the gods and the demons and proposed to distribute the nectar equally. The demons, fascinated by it, handed over the urn of nectar to Shri Vishnu. Vishnu in the form of Mohini said that whatever partition I do, whether it is right or wrong, you guys promise not to create obstacles in the middle, only then I will do this work.
Everyone accepted the words of the Lord of Mohini. The gods and demons sat in separate rows. Taking the form of Mohini, Vishnu tricked all the nectar to drink to the gods, but this caused great anger among the demons.
The deceit with Asuraraj Bali, King Bali of Asuras is discussed a lot in the Puranas. He was the lord of immense powers but righteous. He was never behind in doing charity. His biggest drawback was that he was proud of his powers and considered himself equal to God and he was a staunch opponent of the gods. Kashyap Rishi’s wife Diti had two prominent sons Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha. Hiranyakashipu had 4 sons – Anuhallada, Hallada, Bhakta Prahlad and Sanhallad. Virochana’s son King Bali was born in Prahlad’s family.
King Bali’s kingdom was in the whole of South India. He made Mahabalipuram as his capital. Even today, the festival of Onam is celebrated in Kerala in the memory of King Bali. King Bali performed Ashwamedha Yagya thinking of Vishwavijay and due to this sacrifice his fame started spreading all around. He had performed 98 yagyas including Agnihotra and thus his kingdom and power was expanding, then he thought of attacking the kingdom of Indra.
In this way King Bali announced the 99th Yagya and sent invitations to all the states and townspeople. Gandharvas and Yakshas were on the side of the gods, and demons and demons were on the side of the demons. For the last time Indra fought with Hiranyakashipu’s son Prahlad and his son King Bali and the gods were defeated, then the entire Jambudweep was ruled by the Asuras.
Vamana Avatar Vamana was the son of Rishi Kashyap and his wife Aditi. He was the 12th among the Adityas. It is believed that he was the younger brother of Indra and the half-brother of King Bali. Vishnu was born in this form. The gods were unable to destroy Bali. Bali had given only the amount of land to the gods to perform the yajna. Then all the gods went to the shelter of Vishnu. Vishnu said that even he (Bali) is his devotee, yet he will think of some trick.
Then Vishnu took birth in Aditi’s place and one day when Bali was planning a yajna, he reached there in the guise of a Brahmin to take donations. Shukracharya recognized him on seeing him. On seeing them, Shukra told Bali that he was Vishnu. Don’t donate anything to them without asking me. But Bali did not listen to Shukracharya and on asking for donations from Vamana, donated three steps of land to him.
When everything except water was donated, then Lord Vamana in the guise of a Brahmin showed his vast form. God measured the earth in one step. In the second one asked Bali for heaven and third, where should I keep the third step?
On being asked, Bali smiled and said – there is a shortage in this to create your own world, what should I do, Lord? Now only my head is left. Thus Vishnu put the third leg on his head. Pleased with his devotion, Vishnu granted him a boon to remain the king of the abyss in Hades till the end of Kali Yuga. Then Bali asked Vishnu for another boon.
King Bali said that Lord, if you are making me the king of Hades, then give me a boon that my kingdom should be saved from the evils of enemies and you should be with me. On the request of his devotee, Lord Vishnu resolved to stay in the abode of King Bali.
In the kingdom of King Bali in Patalpuri, Lord Vishnu was physically present in the eight prahars and started protecting him and thus Bali slept peacefully and by staying with Shukracharya in the whole of Patalpuri, governs the system of a new religious kingdom.
It is believed that Badrinath Dham was once the resting place of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Here Lord Shiva lived with his family but Srihari Vishnu liked this place so much that he planned to get it.
According to the Puranas, when Lord Narayan came to Badrinath in Satyuga, there was a forest of Badriyas i.e. plum and here Lord Shankar lived happily with his consort Parvati.
One day Shri Hari Vishnu took the form of a child and started crying loudly. Hearing his cries, Mother Parvati was in great pain. She started thinking that who is this child crying in this rugged forest? Where did it come from?
And where is its mother? Thinking of all this, the mother felt pity on the child. Then she took that child to her house. Shiva immediately understood that this is a Leela of Vishnu. He urged Parvati to leave this child outside the house and said that he would go away after a while on his own.
But Parvati’s mother did not listen to him and took the child to the house and kept him silent and started sleeping. After some time the child fell asleep, then Mother Parvati came out and went on a distant excursion with Shiva. Lord Vishnu was waiting for this moment. He got up and closed the door of the house.
When Lord Shiva and Parvati returned home, the door was locked from inside. When he asked the child to open the door, then Lord Vishnu said from inside that now you forget Lord. I have liked this place very much.
Let me rest here. Now go to Kedarnath from here. From then till today, Badrinath is giving darshan to his devotees here and Lord Shiva is in Kedarnath.
